From the Editor

Hello and welcome to another newsletter. Looking back at last year it hardly seems possible that the situation with my antennas is pretty much the same. My long wire has fallen down again and the OM still won’t let me put a 100 foot tower in the garden. I live quite close to the Belmont transmission mast so there is a precedent for large antenna supporting structures

It is with sadness that I have to publish details of a couple of silent keys, I am sure that you join me in wishing condolences to their families and friends.

Now it is time for my usual moan, apart from the usual suspects I have received no contributions for the newsletter this quarter. Having no material actually makes my job harder and at times it seems pointless. So please contribute to YOUR newsletter; details of how to send news, articles and photographs were published in the previous newsletter.

Silent Keys.

She is now at peace again with my father, Derek Edward Osborne whom she missed very much. I would like to thank you all for being fantastic friends to my mother.
Yet again thanks for being my mothers friends because she spoke of you ALL very very highly.
Cheers Luv Les Osborne xxxx

A CALL FOR HELP FROM THE LADIES OF BYLARA & OTHERS

Could you please complete the questionnaire in the centre of this newsletter? I am trying to put together a general view of YL’s in Radio in 2008/9.

Please be assured that just myself will see your answers and I will not divulge your details to anybody else.

This information is required for talks that I am putting together to other organisations and Clubs.  It is also required to be able to give more accurate information to those who ask me at the talks about YL’s in the Hobby.

I have given my first talk already that was to my own Club South Dorset Radio Society, Weymouth.  I am also booked for another talk at Yeovil Amateur Radio Club in June.

I am also asking you all to approach your Club’s, to see if they would like to learn more about BYLARA and what it does and stands for, as well as how many of us YL’s are out there.

Travel and distance no object, as long as petrol and accommodation can be offered if required.

I am willing to spread the word, but I need all your help to do this, so please do not just read this and dismiss it, because I will not ask of you (selling BYLARA) what I will not do myself.

Anyone wishing to take on Location Manager for the following Regions please get in touch with me by post, email or phone anytime.

I am no longer Secretary/Editor for SDRS, as I have been doing my duty for 4/5 years now.  I feel that my concentrations should now be aimed at promoting BYLARA.  So I have started, so please help me to continue.  I would like to reach as many Clubs as possible, over this next year and this means I will also be able to meet most of my BYLARA ladies, AND THAT MEANS YOU.

SDRS Talk

They’re where 20 members turn up for the talk, and it lasted for about an hour.

I generally covered whom who and we where, how it came about thought up the idea of starting up a Ladies only Club (which is not strictly true as we have OM’s as well on our list).

This is what has given me the idea of tracking down as many ladies as possible to find out if they are operators, when they started (see other notice please).

But like stated before, I need all of you to help me achieve this end.

I have a stand booked at the Sherborne QRP, so if you can get along you will be sure of a good welcome and free cup of tea.

It would be good if the questionnaire could be added to the Website, this is a good medium to gain information.  Please send your replies via email, phone or letter.

Hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to a good year ahead.

Could we also bear in mind that 2009 is our 30th year and this should be celebrated by a grand meeting at a venue suitable for everyone or those that can make it.  Choose a venue, possibly Drayton Manor Rally or some other similar Rally that is on next year. I feel this is extremely important for the morale/name/status of the Club in the Radio fraternity.

Would you please get back to me on this issue, so we can get the planning into operation as soon as possible. This is something to celebrate, so let’s go for it ladies.

Welcome back:

I got my first license in 1995 and then my full call in 1996, not quite quickly enough for a G call!!

I am married with two daughters and we are all licensed, although the girls are not often on air.

My husband, Brian G0UKB, and I are members of Itchen Valley Amateur Radio Club and lead their 'special event team' in planning and running events usually for Guides and. Scouts. Hence we operate during TDOTA and JOTA and Often summer camps.

I am at present TDOTA (Thinking Day on the Air) Coordinator for Girlguiding UK and run the website www.guides-on-the-air.co.uk

I run one local Brownie Unit and help at another. I work part time as a sewing machinist for a company which makes bespoke bags for the film industry.

I work for a housing association as and Affordable Homes Officer. My partner Ian (GW80GI) has two teenage children (Kizzy and Jasper) and we have a dog called Hari. I became involved with amateur radio through SOTA and since May 2006, have been a SOTA activator and before then a logger for Ian!

I enjoy the great outdoors – hill walking and gardening especially, reading travelling and cooking vegetarian Indian food.

I have been a member of “Cuddles” the special care baby unit support group for over 10 years.

I look forward to meeting other members soon.
